Dear MendMeShop,

Hi Deb, i was forwarded your email from Jo Taylor as she purchased the Platinum Knee Therapy Kit for the Sport Taekwondo focus group at London Southbank University, which I head up. The Ultrasound has been used extensively already for all kind of knocks associated to Taekwondo. However the greatest benefit has been for our athlete who represents GBR at World level. This athlete has lateral meniscus damage and a very slight ACL tear. However, such is the nature of the competition season surgery is not something we can really look to at this point. As such he gets periods where the lateral aspect is sore and slightly inflammed, by using the ultrasound coupled with the infernowrap this problem has reduced significantly (he was able to spar 33 rounds over two days very recently with no problems). I believe the increased intra-articular blood flow induced by these systems has enabled such activity. I have subsequently placed the purchasing of two more sets on the agenda of the next focus groups meeting in relation to the other sports of rugby and basketball that are priority at the University. Many thanks Sincerely Dr Dave Cook

Treatment

MendMeShop Cold Compression Wrist Wrap

When treating Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, rest the area as much as possible, apply ice for 10-20 minutes at a time for at least 3 times a day. Do this to the injured area for the first day to 3 days. If you have a cold / hot pack for the wrist, you will quickly find that frequent hot/cold treatments for the wrist are much less troublesome, and you can do this while getting on with your day. Note that the importance of the hot / cold treatment is very high, though when surveyed, most CTS sufferers never take advantage of this easy treatment step. Moist heat may be used after acute swelling of the wrist has improved and rest prevents further progression of the injury. Ice will reduce initial inflammation and swelling and the moist heat circulates blood through the area to speed the healing process. This can be further helped by the use of ultrasound applications over the affected area, as it reduces swelling quickly and increases blood flow to the area.

The long term use of therapeutic ultrasound is common with this injury, as the application of ultrasound will:

  • Counteract atrophy in muscles and tendons.
  • Increase the elasticity of all tendons that pass through the carpal tunnel.
  • Soften inelastic scar tissue from injured tendons / muscle fiber to the point where it is eventually re-absorbed by the body.
  • Decrease inflammation of tendons, and the flexor retinaculum (a fibrous sheath passing through the carpal tunnel). All tendons in the carpal tunnel are sheathed, and once tendons become inflamed, the sheath swells and can also become inflamed, and at the worst, infected. If you suspect you have any type of infection in the area, please consult a physician immediately as this can be very damaging if left untreated. (Never use ultrasound over anything suspected of being infected.)

A Final Word About Therapeutic Ultrasound

It is important to know that therapeutic ultrasound will alleviate CTS symptoms, but to truly treat CTS properly and prevent reoccurrence, an extended treatment term is required - 2 months is not unusual. Treatment length will vary depending on the severity, and there are some cases of CTS that are just too chronic, in which case there are very few treatment options other than invasive surgery. If this is the case for your CTS condition, please make sure you are fully informed about the risks and rewards of CTS corrective surgery.

Never use Ultrasound over an area injected with a steroid (ie. cortisone) for at least 30 days.

Never use Ultrasound after surgery until your physician recommends and approves of it.

Dear MendMeShop,

I wanted to take a moment to Thank You and to let you know the fantastic success I have had with your Ultrasound! I'VE FOUNDED IT TO BE A REMARKABLE PRODUCT !! After 18 months of knee pain, stiffness, and medical attention, I have gained definite flexibility and increased comfort from using the Ultrasound three times a day. After many years of playing tennis I walked off the court with knee problems that braces could not help. A MRI found complex tearing of the medial meniscus with severe medial arthrosis. Follow-up with orthopedists and cortizone shots provided temporary relief, but I returned to limping within three months. Surgery was recommended but I opted for physical therapy. I was hoping to seek ultrasound treatment through PT as I have had this treatment for a torn tendon in my ankle, the result of a handball injury 20 years ago. I could find no therapists who utilize this treatment in my current central Virginia area. After 60 years of playing sports, strains and pains, yet no surgery, I took to the Internet for a last-ditch effort. My search led me to the Mend Me Shop and this great little wand. In just two weeks I can walk without limping, get in and out of a chair without moaning and I'm certain I will survive without surgery. Yep, I'm hoping to be back on the courts in the spring, maybe I'm not old enough to know better. Anyway, I'm convinced that the ULTRASOUND is an effective, reliable and easy to administer treatment. I would certainly recommend it to others who are experiencing the type to problems that it is recommended to treat. Thanks again for the Ultrasound and to the MendMeShop.
