Dear MendMeShop,

I am certified in Rolfing, a form of deep, integrative bodywork and Massage. I use my hands alot for this work. Last September I broke my cardinal rule to limit activities outside work that would stress my hands. I laid down a bamboo floor on two stories of my house. I used a jigsaw and hydraulic nail gun which were hard on my hands. Shortly after completing the work, my right thumb gave out. It would either click and hang up when I bent it or lock up completely and refuse to bend at all. It was stiff and painful. After trying a number of home remedies including rest, ice, heat, essential oils, and manual manipulation, I finally went to see a hand doctor and yes, you guessed it, my choice was surgery or cortisone shots which are only effective in about a third of the cases. His diagnosis was "trigger thumb." The tendon was damaged, swollen and scarred, creating a lump so it would no longer move easily through the tendon sheath. The operation did not remove the lump, but rather slit the tendon sheath so the lump could move unimpeded. Well, that did not sound so great to me, as I think about fluids that the sheath contains and how the dynamics of my thumb may change forever. Having worked with many clients over the last ten years, I have seen how the body never really goes back to factory spec after a surgery, so if there were any other solutions, I wanted to find them. In March I found Mend Me Shop's website and read about the portable Ultrasound Machine. I ordered it that day along with a supply of gel. I have had consistent improvement in my thumb. I maintained the same work schedule and began their treatment protocol. At first I noticed the general tightness and swelling went down, then I noticed that the strength was returning. Some time after that, my thumb began to move again, sometime with clicking and sometime without. I have done several thirty day protocols so far and I am absolutely certain that my thumb will heal completely. The other day I had a totally normal thumb for the entire day, which delighted me and is a good indication of the healing that is taking place. We are often too much in a hurry to fix things, and rush into surgery or harmful medications. The body has enormous capabilities to heal and sometimes needs just a little help and patience. I find the staff at Mend Me Shop extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Customer Service is obviously a very important thing to them, which I appreciate, as that is how I treat my clients and it is nice to find that level of service me. I hope if you are reading this that you give this unit a try. The ability to apply the treatment yourself is not only cost effective, but also better from a healing perspective because as you follow the treatment protocol outlined for your condition, you can see and feel the accumulative effect. This would be difficult, not to mention expensive, if you had to go to an outside service.

Posterior Cruciate Ligament Sprain (PCL Sprain)

Knee diagram

Ligaments are vital structures that connect bones to other bones within the body. The Posterior Cruciate Ligament - otherwise more commonly referred to as the PCL - is a ligament in the knee joining the back of the shinbone (lower leg) to the inside end of the thigh bone (upper leg). It crosses over the Anterior Cruciate Ligament forming and "X" inside the knee. The purpose of this ligament is to aid in stabilization of the front and back movements of the knee.

The Posterior Cruciate Ligament is stronger than some of the other knee ligaments and therefore less prone to injury than these other ligaments. When an individual injures this ligament there is not the popping sound commonly heard with an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury.

Causes

Knee injuries can happen with a sudden twising of the joint.

PCL injuries generally occur as the result of over stretching or pulling of the ligament. It may be injured due to direct physical trauma to the tibia (shinbone) when the knee is bent thereby over stretching the ligament. Something as simple as missing a step also is common among knee injuries.

Symptoms of a PCL Sprain or tear include swelling, lack of motion, and knee pain. Individuals have also experienced that while they can walk on their knee, it is not completely stable.

Treatment

Immediate treatment of the PCL injury include elevation of the knee and the application of cold or ice packs. Rest and minimal use of the injured knee are also important to healing. Light compression of the knee joint with the use of an elasticized support bandage may also be directed by your care giver.

Because of the location of the PCL, surgery is generally not a recommended treatment for this type of injury. More often though, individuals with PCL tearing require physiotherapy. A common technique used in the treatment of PCL injuries by physiotherapists is therapeutic ultrasound. Ultrasound therapy on a Sprained PCL ligament is technique that has been in existence around the world for many decades. Ultrasound can quickly reduce pain and swelling in the knee by increasing blood supply to the affected area, engergizing local tissue and thus stimulating nutrient absorption on the cellular level. All of these combined effects truly increase the rate of healing for a damaged PCL ligament.

There are limited options for treatment of the PCL ligament due to its location, but the therapeutic energy of ultrasound WILL penetrate deep into the knee reaching this interior ligament greatly enhancing its healing rate and immediately decreasing inflammation in the area.

Not only does ultrasound aid in the duration of healing, but it helps to prevent long term complications. Arthritis, scar tissue build up, pain, and lack of mobility, are some of the more common long term complications from a PCL injury. By speeding up the healing process with ultrasound, less scar tissue is formed, swelling and pain are reduced.

Success

For those who suffer from some of these long term complications of existing PCL injuries, ultrasound can help. Ultrasound therapy can help to break up fibrous tissue and scar tissue in the affected knee. For those with chronic pain and inflammation ultrasound will help to reduce these and free the individual.

Prevention

To reduce the risk of injury to the knee regular exercise is an important component. Gradually increasing the intensity of exercise and being aware of the movement of the knee are key factors as well. Avoiding sudden movements such as twisting or overstretching of the joint will help keep the knee stable.

BFST™ - Using Your Body's Natural Healing System

Inferno Wrap providing superior blood flow stimulation.

Your body can heal itself! In fact, your body starts healing itself the moment you are injured and it's the blood in your body that makes it all happen. Your blood is the transport mechanism for everything that is good inside you. It carries oxygen, nutrients, water and antibodies. Proper blood flow is essential to healing. Unfortunately, when you injure your body you stop moving and the swelling sets in. That means your vital blood flow can be reduced to a trickle! If you want to heal quickly, you need to keep your blood moving and that's where Blood Flow Stimulation Therapy™, or BFST™, comes in.

Blood Flow Stimulation Therapy™ promotes the flow of blood through the injured area without the need to exercise your already damaged tissue. You can really feel it work. Within moments of applying an Inferno Wrap™ you can feel the healing sensation and the increase in blood flow. During a treatment, and for quite some time after you finish, your injured area will experience increased blood flow even though your body is at rest. It's a soothing sensation and extremely effective. With BFST™ your injury is constantly being fed with healing, nutritious, oxygen and energy filled blood. This is exactly what your body needs to heal.

Dear MendMeShop,

I would like you to know that after landing on my left knee sharply enough to merit two weeks on crutches 12 weeks ago, I am now 95% better. The knee isn’t fully recovered in strength, but it is pain free and able to go up and down stairs normally now and in general work as it should. Deep knee bends aren’t a recommended activity just yet, though it is comfortable to do that motion at some times but not at others. In any event, your inferno wrap was part of my recovery process, and I feel a very important one! Between the information on your website and the wrap – and the RICE! – I seem to have healed far better than I originally expected, though it has taken time and patience, and I was cautious so as not to re-injure it! Thank you. Just wanted you to know!
