Dear MendMeShop,

We've been very pleased that our son's meniscus issues have improved since using the ultrasound device. Thanks for making it available!

Dear MendMeShop,

I am 56 years old and purchased your ultrasound equipment to repair minor joint deterioration in my shoulders, hips, knees, and ankles. I was experiencing minor tenderness and crackling sounds in some of my joints. After one 10-15 minute treatment on each of my joints, the tenderness the next day had mostly disappeared and the crackling sounds in my knees were reduced. Greater flexibility in my ankles was the most amazing. I offered to help my friends and family with treatments on their trouble areas. My 32 year old niece had developed stabbing pains in the arch of one foot (plantar fasciitis?) causing her to hop on the other foot first thing in the morning. With one treatment, she woke up the next morning and could walk instead of hop/limp to the bathroom. She came back right away for a second treatment and to have her husband work on his knee. They both got further relief. Now she and her husband are ready to order their own ultrasound equipment. I also assisted my 94 year old mother that had a frozen shoulder. After two treatments, she gained a about six inches in her range of motion and she became pain free in the resting position. That is very fast progress for all of us. Over the last 3 weeks, more of my friends got relief from the ultrasound equipment for tender Achilles heals, elbows, wrists and neck stiffness. Most comment about how pleasing the therapeutic gel is that has lavender, eucalyptus, and other ingredients. This has been a very inexpensive way to self treat and cut down on chiropractor visits that did not really solve the problem.

Dear MendMeShop,

I am 49 years old. 2 years ago I started feeling pain in my right knee. Usually it disappeared after 10 min, so I didn't pay a lot of attention to it. After a few weeks it became stronger and one day I needed to stop jogging after 5 min. The next day it was even painful to walk. I visited a sports medicine surgeon for x-rays examination -the diagnosis - inflammation of patella tendon (point of its insertion into patella). Took a course of physical therapy for 4 weeks twice a week. Sadly, the knee didn't feel the same. The pain was there and I felt it on each sharp movement of my right leg, when I went upstairs, and when I try to run up even a few steps. A few months later on the street, I misstep and felt sharp pain on the knee cup. This time it became swollen and REALLY painful. Visited the doctor again and obtained really strong anti-inflammatory drug which helped. I also enrolled in PT again, but after all this it was still painful. A few months ago I went to the doctor for a third time and obtained a knee MRI ($2000 cost) and I was told that I have a partual tear of patella tendon and tendinosis. No running now and pain felt even when I touched a particular spot on the patella, and if I tried to do even partual squat it was painful as well. Recommendations - 3rd round of PT. This time I decided to take matters into my own hands. I browsed the internet a lot, and read a lot of "horror" stories of how people suffering from runner knee for many years found out nothing, even surgery, helped them. A few papers mentioned ultrasound, so after additional research I decided to invest around 100% into the device. There are few devices available which according to specs looks the same, but amazon reviews were quite positive for mendmeshop and I liked the fact that when I called customer service, I immediately got connected to live person and all my question were answered. The device arrived as promised. I've started treatment around 3 weeks ago, went by the manual 2 times per day 10min on high for the first two week, 3rd week I did once a day only, so today (Oct 25 is the first day of 4th week which is recommended to skip treatments). As it mentioned in the manual, I didn't feel any warm sensation on the skin (some people complained about heat), The device itself becames slightly warm but that's about it. You can hear a little humming which nearly disappears when you have a good seal between the metal head and the skin. Results: immediately after each treatment I felt a tangible decrease in pain just by pressing on the patella. Moreover , I also felt much less pain when I did a very partial one-leg squats. Now 3 weeks after I started the treatment , I can do 10-15 one leg partial decline squats literally pain free (a little ache but nothing similar to what I had before). No pain when I stand up from chair or go upstairs. I am very encouraged ( frankly I was sceptical at the beginning and thoght it's a snake oil, but I decided to try and I am very happy I did ). I'll definetely continue to use the device in the future. I have a scheduled visit to my knee doctor in a few weeks and I am eager to see what he will tell. I would be very interested to get a second MRI and see if there are any changes in tendon , but I am skeptical he will send me. Well now I am happy that there is a progress with pain and I am about to start exercising on the Nordic Track ski machine since it's less pressure on the knee joints). I am not taking any risk in starting jogging (I tried few steps and it's OK , but I don't want to take chances). Overall, I achieved great help from this device and I wish I would have started it much earlier. Need to give credit for MendMeShop customer service - immediate connection to live person, questions promptly answered, notification e-mails after shipment.

Dear MendMeShop,

For over six months, I suffered from bursitis of the left hip. Nothing seemed to help. If anything, it was getting worse. Finally, my doctor gave me a prescription to see a physical therapist. A week before my first appointment I started using the hand held ultrasond that I received from MendMeShop. I started feeling relief. I was thrilled, and mentioned it to my therapist when I went for my first session. She said I was the third patient of hers that had purchased the ultrasound. She was getting good feedback, and asked if I would bring it in to show her. When I did, she was impressed. She also said the gel used with it, is the same high quality used in their clinic. I went ahead with a brief series of therapy treatments. I was discharged with some exercises, and told to continue to ice and use the hand held ultrasound on my hip. I have done that and I now feel that, between the icing and the ultrasound, my bursitis is being kept at bay! Another interesting thing I would like to share. I have a life long neck problem. I had a serious fall as a child, and as a result the first vertebre in my neck (the atlas) often becomes dislodged. When this happens, I become spacey and depressed and barely able to function until I can get to my upper cervical specialist in Chicago. Recently, while in Florida, I began to get the usual negative symptoms of my neck being out of allignment. I panicked. I couldn't fly back to Chicago for a treatment. I was terrified I would be miserable and my trip ruined. Out of desperation I used the ultrasound (on the low setting) on my neck. It felt wonderful, and the negative symptions subsided. I am still in Florida and doing fine. Very anxious to share this with my doctor in Chicago when I return.

Dear MendMeShop,

Since I am a nurse and see a lot of injuries, I know what helps. Recently I tore my ACL in my left knee and was going to physical therapy, which by the way is very expensive if you do not have really good insurance coverage. It was very time consuming and costly, so I started looking online for another alternative and found Mendmeshop. Best thing I could have done! The ultrasound device and gel are WONDERFUL! I started seeing improvement in the first week and love the ease of use and the fact that it can be done at home on my own schedule. The customer service is also top notch, and there for you immediately. I highly recommend this product and it has been a PLEASURE dealing with Paul and this company.

Dear MendMeShop,

I injured my roator cuff in left shoulder in Oct of '07. I had a cortisone shot shortly after and it felt good for a few weeks or so. In Dec my wife and I left for Florida for the winter suffered for three months with a sore shoulder. We returned in April visited the doctor and got another cortisone shot. About the same time I found your web site on the ultrasound units and decided to try it. I waited the 30 days from the date of the cortisone shot as instructed and started using the ultrasound unit. I can now say that for the first time since last Oct I am pain free without a cortisone shot and I attribute it to your unit. Thanks for a great product and great people to deal with, especially Deb for her help. Also, the information you sent with the unit was shared with the physical therapy unit of our local hospital and they have approved my wife to use it for post surgery use on her thumb. You may use me as a testimonial any time. Jim Patten

Diagnosing Plantar Fasciitis

Tests can be performed by your doctor to diagnose your plantar fasciitis.

If you are suffering foot pain, we recommend you see a doctor for a proper diagnosis to be sure you can treat the condition correctly. The doctor will normally take your medical history to find out about your current condition, your symptoms, and any past injuries that could relate to your foot pain. It is important to provide him/her with as much information as possible.

He/she will give you a physical examination and check your foot and toe for any tenderness, inflammation, discoloration or unusual sensations. He/she will test your foot and lower leg muscles and nerves for reflexes, strength and flexibility. Normally with plantar fasciitis you will have pain when standing on your toes, a thick plantar fascia and reduced ankle dorsiflexion (ability to point your toes and foot upward) as a result of a tight achilles tendon.

Your foot soles can be an indidication of plantar fasciitis.

Your gait (the way you walk) will also be evaluated to determine your bone alignment when you walk. Your doctor may check the soles of your shoes to see if you have excessive wear on one side. If the inside edge of your sole is more worn, you overpronate. If the outside edge of your sole is more worn, you underpronate. If there is no wearing on your sole, you have a balanced stride.

What a heel spur looks like

Occasionally x-rays, an MRI or blood tests might be requested to rule out other conditions or diseases (bone spurs, stress fractures, nerve compression, collagen disorders, tumors, rheumatoid arthritis). If unsure of the root cause of your plantar pain, blood tests might be requested to rule out diseases or infections.

Plantar fasciitis accounts for 11 - 15% of all foot symptoms requiring professional care.

Plantar Fasciitis Treatments

Conservative treatments tend to be the best way to treat plantar fasciitis. However, it can take months to years to heal depending on your situation and commitment to treatment (6 weeks to 6 months or longer). To improve healing time and treat your pain naturally, cold compression therapy, therapeutic ultrasound, and Blood Flow Stimulation Therapy are recommended.

Cold Compression Therapy

When you are experiencing pain, swelling, and inflammation in the bottom of your foot, doctors recommend cold compression therapy. Cold compression therapy reduces tissue damage caused by swelling and inflammation and treats your foot pain quickly.

Plantar Fasciitis Treatment with Cold Compression Wraps

Cold compression therapy works by interrupting and slowing nerve and cell function in the damaged area. This is important because once blood vessels are damaged, they can no longer carry oxygenated blood to the plantar fascia and tissue cells begin to break-down.

The Plantar/Spur Freezie Wrap® allows you to treat yourself in an effective and convenient way and the deep cold provided by the Plantar/Spur Freezie Wrap® slows cell function thereby reducing cellular break-down. Furthermore, because the cold wraps serve to numb the nerves, the wraps also reduce pain!

The cooling gel pack inside every Freezie Wrap® have been designed with ColdCure Technology®. The specially formulated gel allows the pack to be supercharged in the fridge, not in the freezer like ice or other freezer packs. The Freezie Wrap® gives you deep cold compression therapy without the risk of 'cold burns' or cryoburn to the layers of your skin. This unique technology, inside a soft and completely adjustable neoprene wrap, gives you comfortable, convenient, and effective cold compression therapy.

In addition, the specially designed foot wrap has an adjustable compression band so you can control the amount of pressure that feels good around your foot.

Ultrasound Therapy

Scar tissue is a major contributor to chronic plantar fasciitis. When your plantar fascia begins to heal (initially and after every retearing of the fascia as your step down in the morning) scar tissue naturally builds up in the fascia fibers. At this stage, using therapeutic ultrasound will soften scar tissue as your body heals as well as breaking down any scar tissue that may have already formed.

Ultrasound, effective treatment for your plantar fasciitis

Scar tissue develops once acute inflammation begins to decrease. As your damaged plantar fascia heals this dead, fibrotic tissue will develop instead of forming brand new healthy tissue.

This tissue makes the fascia inflexible and adheres to surrounding tissue causing pain and preventing your foot from moving properly (this limits your range of motion and strength). With less scar tissue, the normal elasticity in the plantar fascia will return making it healthier, more flexible, and less prone to re-injury. In addition, less scar tissue build up means less foot pain. Ultrasound can also administer therapeutic medicines deep into the body through a process called phonophoresis.

For those who suffer from other conditions such as heel spurs or tendinitis, ultrasound can help. With dedication to your ultrasound therapy you can soften the tough and inelastic scar tissue and reduce inflammation.

How to Order

If you are also experiencing pain in other parts of your body, your plantar pain may be the cause. Plantar fasciitis can lead to other overuse injuries if left untreated. The pain can cause you to re-adjust your posture and change your gait to take weight off your sore foot. This can cause excess strain in your back, knees, hips, and ankles. The MendMeShop® Ultrasound System can be used to treat all of your strains and tears, as well as other painful conditions like bursitis, tendinitis, and joint pain. It is a great tool to have on hand for so many soft tissue injuries!

Enhance Your Ultrasound Treatments With Phonophoresis

When using an ultrasound unit, proper conductive ultrasound gel is required. Without it, the sound waves will not transfer into the tissue making the treatment ineffective. Although you will receive all the benefits of ultrasound therapy with standard ultrasound gel, medicated ultrasound gel can multiply the benefits without any extra time or effort. All you have to do is use medicated gel instead of standard ultrasound gel during your treatments.

Lavender Infusion Ultrasound Gel contains the healing power of natural Bulgarian lavender, eucalyptus, menthol, and peppermint.

Here's how it works! The sound waves carry the medicinal molecules found inside the gel deep into your tissue. This process is known as phonophoresis and it increases the healing power of therapeutic ultrasound.

Our exclusive MendMeShop® Lavender Infusion Gel is specially formulated with Natural Bulgarian Lavender, Peppermint, Eucalyptus, and Menthol. These ingredients have been used for centuries to reduce inflammation and relax tissue to speed healing. Now they are available in this incredible ultrasound gel to give you 2 therapies in 1 treatment. You get the benefit of the regenerating sound waves from the ultrasound device itself AND the added bonus of the therapeutic ingredients inside the gel being delivered straight to your plantar fascia where it is most effective to reduce your foot pain and speed healing. And that's not all - our Lavender Infusion Ultrasound Gel is free of the potentially harmful ingredients of paraben, DEA, or dyes.

MendMeShop Success Stories

1 FREE bottle of MendMeShop® Lavender Infusion Ultrasound Gel comes with every MendMeShop® Ultrasound System. If you have skin sensitivities or are sensitive to scents, you have the option of using our Non-Fragrant Ultrasound Gel with your MendMeShop® Ultrasound System. Just like our Lavender Infusion Gel, it does not contain paraben, DEA, or dyes!

Blood Flow Stimulation Therapy

Once inflammation and swelling have been reduced in your plantar fascia, nourishing and strengthening the tissue in your foot is the goal. Blood Flow Stimulation Therapy (BFST®) promotes blood flow to the treatment area bringing the necessary oxygen and nutrients to your plantar fascia and other weakened tissue. BFST® speeds up the body's natural repair process for faster healing and stronger tissue.

MendMeShop Inferno Wrap and how it works.

Extremities of the body, like the foot, do not receive much blood flow naturally and when you stop moving your foot because it hurts, you are not creating the natural blood flow it usually receives. With the use of Blood Flow Stimulation Therapy you can increase your body's blood supply to the plantar fascia.

In addition, the fresh blood flow whisks away dead cells and toxins (including lactic acid, commonly found in trigger points) that have built up from the injury leaving the area clean and better prepared for healing. Our Plantar/Spur Inferno Wrap® provides effective, non-invasive, non-addictive pain relief with no side effects.

Keeping your planter fascia and foot as healthy and strong as possible throughout the healing process will allow you to get back to your regular activities faster. The Plantar/Spur Inferno Wrap®, available exclusively from MendMeShop®, provides effective, non-invasive, non-addictive pain relief and healing with no side effects.

The benefits of BFST® do not end once your foot pain stops! Even when your plantar fascia has healed, your activities can put it at risk of an overuse injury, tightness, or another tear. An Inferno Wrap® treatment before activity is an easy way to warm up the tissues and prepare them for use. Then, end your day with another treatment to prevent tightness from setting in overnight. This incredible healing tool will be the ticket to healthy feet for years to come!

How to Order

During your recovery, you will probably have to modify and/or eliminate any activities that cause pain or discomfort in your foot until your pain and inflammation settle. With these 3 easy therapies you will notice great improvement within a few weeks, with most patients seeing some improvement quickly. The more diligent you are with your treatment and rehabilitation, the faster you will see successful results. If you start using your plantar fascia before it has a chance to heal properly (even though it may feel better), you can end up doing a lot more damage than good!

Night Splints
Promote faster healing with Plantar Fasciitis Night Splint with tread

Wearing a night splint to treat your plantar fasciitis allows you to begin your day in significantly less pain and heals your inflamed fascia ligament faster.

Promote faster healing with Plantar Fasciitis Dorsal Night Splint

Night splints are designed to maintain a gentle stretch of the plantar fascia while you sleep. Your ankle is stabilized at an angle that prevents the fascia ligament from becoming taut as you relax your foot throughout the night. As a result, you will no longer go through the painful process of restretching the fascia ligament in the morning.

Preventing the fascia from becoming taut as you sleep alleviates the painful mornings all too familiar to plantar fasciitis sufferers and accelerates the healing process. Our lightweight, padded, low-profile Dorsal Night Splint and Night Splint with Tread will give you the stretch you need while you sleep comfortably and heal your pain.

Stretching to Relieve Plantar Fasciitis Pain

Stretching will help to alleviate tightness in your foot, lower leg and hamstring muscles.

The calf muscles are made up of several muscles which serve to plantar flex the foot. These include the gastrocnemius, the soleus, and the plantaris muscles. When these muscles are tight they can contribute to the development of plantar fasciitis. Stretching of these muscles can reduce the symptoms. Consult your doctor to discuss which stretches work best for you.

There are several techniques which include:

  • A lunge with one foot while leaving the heel of the other foot planted on the ground. Leaning into the lunge will stretch the calf muscle of the back leg. Do not bounce as you stretch as this may cause tendon damage. A nice, steady stretch held for 30-60 seconds will give you the desired results. You should stretch both legs even if only one side is bothering you. This should be repeated several times per day.

  • A very simple stretch to get started can be done by standing with the feet at shoulder width. Go into a full squat with your knees bent all of the way. While in this full squatting position your can lean forward and you should feel the stretch in your calf muscles and your feet. You may support yourself with your hands if you feel like you are having trouble keeping your balance. Throughout the stretch you should push your heels toward the ground as you lean forward. This is a good stretch of your soleus muscle.

  • Another stretch that will help starts with you putting your toes on a step and your heel on the floor below. Lean into this foot and you will feel a stretch in your calf muscles and foot. This stretch primarily focuses on the gastrocnemius muscle when you keep the knee straight.

  • You may also consider stretching the gluteal muscles and hamstrings. This is because they, along with the calf muscles share the same fascial plane and kinetic chain. Releasing tension in these muscles and the fascia that surrounds them through stretching, will take tension off of the plantar fascia as well.

  • One of the most important times to stretch is in the morning. People with plantar fasciitis know that this is the most painful time. The reason is that the feet naturally plantar flex when we lay down to sleep. Over eight hours of plantarflexion the plantar fascia becomes taut again. This makes the first steps of morning particularly painful. Stretching before these first steps has been shown to alleviate this problem in 72% of people.(1)

  • A night splint is a very effective device that maintains a stretch in the plantar fascia throughout the night. Preventing the fascia from becoming taut as you sleep alleviates the painful mornings all too familiar to plantar fasciitis sufferers and accelerates your healing. Our lightweight, padded, low-profile Dorsal Night Splint and Night Splint With Tread will give you the stretch you need while you sleep comfortably and will allow you to awaken pain free

  • Consistent stretching of the posterior leg muscles including the calf muscles, gluteal muscles and hamstrings can be very beneficial. That is why it is one of the treatments of choice for therapists, doctors and athletic trainers.

Success

Physical therapy will help to improve pain in tissues and restore your weakened muscles through use of ultrasound, muscle stimulation or extracorporeal shockwave therapy and will provide you with a customized exercise program.

Chiropractic care, deep massage, reflexology and acupressure have also shown to be effective in relieving tension, strengthening your foot and helping with alignment.

Dear MendMeShop,

Dear Paul, I wanted to e-mail you and let you know how things are going. In your last e-mail to me you made a very profound statement that I had never heard before. I have been to several doctors over the past 10 years and not any one of them ever told me that snapping hip syndrome was a manifestation of short leg syndrome. I truly think that many of my problems are layers that have had to have been slowly peeled away to find out what the problem is that is causing each and every one of them. I thought about the statement that you made and I applied it. Several years back I had a chiropractor tell me that I had short leg syndrome and that I had fallen arches in my right foot and leg. He ordered me an orthotic and a lift to make up the difference. My foot hurt all the time and my right hip hurt all the time and so I stoppd wearing them. A few years later I discovered that I had a bad right ovary. Once I had a doctor that agreed that it was bad and removed it and all that pain went away I was left with my right foot hurting. I found arch supports that made that better but then I had the bursitus and snapping hip syndrome symptoms. No Doctor knew what to do for me and basically tried to give me pain medication to cover it up. I don't want to cover anything up. I want to find the root of the problem and treat it. So, I got to thinking about your statement. (I know it seems like I am going around this same tree, but I will get there) My thought was that because of the pain I was suffering from my ovary, maybe with that all gone I should try the lifts again and see what happens. I am tellinig you...that one little statement you made took care of my bursitus and my snapping hip syndrome. I am no longer suffering from any of that. I have not had to use the ultra sound device at all. I am sleeping well at night. Thank you for your statement. You just don't know how much that has meant to me. You don't know me, you have never met me but you literally saved the quality of my life. It took me a few days after I read your e-mail to put two and two together so to speak but it was worth trying again. Thank you so much.

Dear MendMeShop,

I was hesitant to purchase the dorsal night splint since I thought that it would be awkward to sleep with, but with a limited budget I decided to purchase the splint and the freeze wrap for treating plantar fascitis. Within less than 2 weeks I noticed that I could walk without pain when I got up in the morning! This was amazing, since it usually took several minutes of severe limping before I could walk normally in the past. I just did a trip with my husband where we walked on hiking trails for up to 5 miles each day and my foot did just fine. I was amazed that I could do all this with only 2 weeks of treatment!
